When the American Army evacuates after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Colonel Joseph Madden (Wayne) stays behind to organize an underground resistance. With the help of Philippine Army Captain Andres Bonifacio (Academy Award winner Anthony Quinn), the small, determined band of warriors becomes the tip of the military spear that stops the Imperial Japanese Army from advancing across Asia and the Pacific.
